Antiplatelets (overview)
Antiplatelets reduce platelet aggregation. They’re often prescribed for coronary artery disease, post-stent care, and stroke prevention.
Examples and notes
- Aspirin: common, sometimes OTC; still significant in bleeding risk.
- Clopidogrel (and related agents): often used after stents or cardiovascular events.
Emergency relevance
- Platelet function affects early clot formation; bleeding can be more persistent.
- Risk increases when combined with anticoagulants or NSAIDs.

Emergency rule of thumb: if there is potential for internal bleeding (especially head injury), get urgent assessment and disclose your blood thinner immediately.
